In what cases is it definitely worthwhile to consult a psychologist?

From time to time we all experience stress, anxiety and other strong emotions related to personal and professional problems or the social and political situation in the country and the world. Often we can get back to normal on our own, but sometimes we may need the help of a professional.

In what cases it is definitely worth to consult a psychologist?

1️⃣ You find it difficult to regulate your emotions (anger, rage, irritability, resentment). You constantly have disturbing or intrusive thoughts and these interfere with your daily life.

2️⃣ You are doing something ‘too much’: working too much / eating too much or too little / drinking too much alcohol, etc.

3️⃣ You experience feelings of despair and helplessness, apathy; you avoid social contacts. Things that used to bring you pleasure no longer arouse your emotions.

4️⃣ You feel tired all the time, sleep more than usual and cannot get out of bed in the morning. This symptom often results from or accompanies mental health problems and may indicate depression.

5️⃣ You engage in risky behaviour - constantly doing things that could threaten or severely damage your life. For example, starting to use drugs, driving at the speed limit, having a promiscuous sex life, doing direct physical harm to your body, such as making cuts on your arms or legs.

Remember that seeking help is not a sign of weakness, but an important step in taking care of yourself. And the sooner you see a professional, the sooner you can regain control of your life.
