What should I do if I am ashamed to go on holiday?

When a volunteer recognises that he or she needs rest, he or she recognises that he or she is an ordinary person and has every right to have his or her needs met.

Our nervous system and body are organised in such a way that for normal functioning we need to combine active work, during which the sympathetic nervous system is involved, and rest, for which the parasympathetic nervous system is responsible. A person will only feel comfortable, stable and efficient when these two systems work in equal partnership.

Often people feel that they have no right to rest and enjoy life when their friends and loved ones are suffering and those around them need help. This is a maladaptive pattern that will ultimately be bad for a person's efficiency and performance. If a person does not rest, at some point they will burn out and become unproductive.

Therefore, it is important to pay attention to the needs of your body, remember about physical activity that brings pleasure, sleep, proper nutrition and water balance. These simple and seemingly obvious tips will help you stay healthy, sustainable and productive for a long time. And this in turn will allow you to help people from the heart, not out of guilt. And, of course, make our world a better place!
